James (Jim) Edward Price, born January 4th, 1937 in Dayton, Ohio, age 87, stepped into Heaven on Friday, June 28th, 2024, after a long, happy, and healthy life ending in a battle with congestive heart failure. His final month was spent in the care of hospice in his daughter’s home in Cape Coral, Florida.
He is leaving behind Susan Elson Price (beloved wife of 55 years, 80), Gabriel Charles Price (son, 42), Abigail Ruth Price (daughter, 41), granddaughters Kayley Frances (16), Madilyn Sue (13), and Scarlett Ruth (7), Marilyn “Jane” (Price) Pettibone (sister, 89), nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, players, students, and many others who were a significant part in his life.
He is preceded in death by Charles Curtis Price (father, 1908-1974), Ruth Viola (Newman) Price (mother, 1909-1995), Charles Marvin Price (brother, 1934-2000), and Georgiana Kay (Price) McLean (sister, 1939-2024).
Jim graduated from Milton-Union High School (West Milton, Ohio) in 1955. He earned his Bachelor’s degree at Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) in 1959. During his time at Miami University he was a charter member of the Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) fraternity. He also achieved a Master’s degree at the University of Toledo (Toledo, Ohio) in 1969. Jim’s outstanding teaching and coaching career spanned over 5 decades including being a leader in many schools, colleges, and associations in Ohio, Florida, California, and Costa Rica. He blessed so many with lifelong knowledge, friendships, skills, and memories. He was the 1st National ‘A’ Licensed Soccer Coach in the State of Florida and earned a 50 Year Membership Award from The NSCAA in 2012. He has many students and players who still look up to him as one of their best role models and friends.
A service will take place in Fort Myers at Saint Hilary’s Episcopal Church (5011 McGregor Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33901) on Saturday, July 20th, 2024, at 2 PM with a reception to follow.
A service will take place in Miami at Saint Thomas Episcopal Church (5690 North Kendall Drive, Coral Gables, Florida 33156) on Tuesday, July 23rd, 2024, at 2 PM with a reception to follow.
Jim will be cremated and laid to rest in two sites. The interment of ashes will be at Saint Hilary’s Episcopal Church (5011 McGregor Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33901) and Caballero Rivero Woodlawn South Cemetery (11655 SW 117th Avenue, Miami, Florida 33186).
