Dr. Douglas Dean Dunn passed away September 28, 2018 at the age of 88. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky to James and Eva Dunn. His mother passed away at a very young age, and he was lovingly reared by his step-mother, Sue Marie Dunn. At the age of 20, he married Elsie Marie Moody, and they were married for 50 years until her passing in 2001.
In 1973, Douglas and Elsie founded Evangelical Christian School in Fort Myers, Florida. Dr. Dunn often stated that he felt compelled by the Lord to provide the community with a school that offered excellence in Christian education. Both Dr. and Elsie Dunn dedicated their lives in service to the Lord through ECS. They were highly respected members of the community, and their legacy continues through the school. Dr. Dunn was principal of ECS for 30 years.
After his retirement, Dr. Dunn continued to be involved in the school’s activities. Being around the students brought him true joy. He was always committed to spreading the word of God and continued his ministry to every person that crossed his path. He always had a joyful heart, and a playful nature.
After Elsie’s passing in 2001, Dr. Dunn married Shirley Hayne in 2004. They were happily married until Shirley’s passing in 2013. He was currently married to Carol Manzo whom he wed in 2014.
Dr. Dunn will forever be lovingly remembered for his joy of life, his willingness to help others, and his unwavering faith in Jesus.
Dr. Dunn leaves behind his wife, Carol Dunn, daughter Andrea Kemp, and his brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Beverley Dunn of Memphis, TN. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren; the brothers of his wife, Elsie, and their families.
Please join us to celebrate the life of Dr. Douglas Dunn at a memorial service on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 10:00AM at Evangelical Christian School. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elsie Dunn Fine Arts Building project at ECS.
