Debra “Debi” A Lyons, 58, passed away at home surrounded by family on December 21st, 2023. Her fight with Huntington’s Disease was finally over. Debi was born in Trenton, New Jersey February 17th, 1965, to David (who predeceased her in 1998) and Patricia Lyons. Debi was their second child, and little sister to Dana L Lyons.
Debi was a fun, adventurous, and handy child. She enjoyed helping her father build their family barn and porch for their camper. Debi enjoyed the NJ Shore and the boardwalks with her family and friends. She loved a good prank on her sister like moving her car while she was at work or making some pizza with her mom.
She attended Hamilton High West High School where she graduated in 1983. She was in the marching band, played softball, and field hockey. Later she went on to graduate from beauty school where she learned NEVER to have a hair out of place.
At the age of 24 she had her first daughter Felicia Bonsanto, and 22 months later had her second daughter Mercedes Bonsanto. While raising two girls she managed to finish Nursing School and become an LPN. Debi loved children; she loved helping people. She worked for over twenty years as a pediatric nurse in Hamilton NJ. Still NEVER had a hair out of place.
Debi always put her girls first. She enjoyed coaching them in soccer for many years in Hamilton and Florence, New Jersey. She never missed a soccer or basketball game and always made her presence felt from the bleachers. She enjoyed trips to Six Flags, camping, and teaching her girls how to fish.
Debi moved to Cape Coral Florida at the age of 52 to live with her daughter Felicia Bonsanto, her wife Kimberlee Bonsanto, and her granddaughter Jedaiyah Hermann “Stinky Butt” as Mom would call her, living closer to her daughter Mercedes Bonsanto and her wife Amber Bonsanto. Being with her “Girls” kept mom going. We were blessed to have her mother Patricia come live with us as well. Were we had four generations in our house filled with love.
Debi’s will to live was contiguous, her strength and determination was remarkable. She enjoyed waking up with the sun to get an early workout in with JJ. She loved family dinners, holiday fun with her girls, and most important a good Steelers game on Sundays. Her battle with Huntington’s Disease never stopped her. She will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever. Debi wanted to find a cure so no one would ever have to suffer again. In lieu of flowers her family is asking for donations to the Huntington’s Foundation. HDSA.org. Or by mailing a check to 505 Eighth Ave, Suite 902 New York, NY 10018.
We will be Celebrating Debi’s life Jan 21st, 2024, at Coral Ridge Funeral Home 1-3pm. Join us in remembering her beautiful life. “We LOVE you MOM”.
