Patroness of stray cats, religious drinker of tea, and connoisseur of everything chocolate, Carol was born on August 7, 1952 to Margaret "Peg" and Willis McGrain in the charming flyspeck of Ovid, NY.
She had four children, Margaret "Maggie" Lutz Knox (Andrew), Thomas Jefferson "Jeff" Lutz, Andrew Jackson "Jake" Lutz, and James Deveraux Lutz. She also had a small army of spoiled grandchildren whose parents looked the other way when she slipped them candy in excess.
An employee of Greater Pine Island Water Association for nearly twenty years, Carol lovingly treated and tested the island's water. She was known to frequent CW Fudge in Matlacha to get a treat while collecting samples for testing. She also ran the Christmas Basket Brigade and Clothes For Kids programs for the island's children, with help from members of the family, including her mother, Peg Harmon, and sister, Mary Jo Roane; as well as a number of dedicated F.I.S.H. volunteers who will all continue in her absence. While this was mostly an act of altruism, if truth be told, she also really enjoyed playing with the toys before distribution.
A memorial and tea party reception will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in St. James City on Saturday, April 22nd at 11AM. Attendees are encouraged, but certainly not required to wear tea party attire.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Pine Island F.I.S.H., the Christmas Basket Brigade, Helping Paws Animal Shelter, or simply be kind to yourself and quit smoking.
Arrangements under the direction of Coral Ridge Funeral Home & Cemetery, Cape Coral, FL.
