Steve Brooks, 42, of Athens, Texas left this life having lived every day to its fullest despite a valiant battle with cancer. Born on October 18, 1974 in Melbourne Beach, Florida to Joseph and Sandra Brooks, Steve stood out to others for his boisterous personality, witty sense of humor, and love of adventure. Steve put down roots in Texas his senior year of high school and went on to earn degrees in journalism, and business with a concentration in project systems.
Steve befriended many throughout his tenure as a beloved DJ and bouncer at various venues in East Texas before meeting the love of his life, Calinda Paris Brooks, 37, of Athens, Texas in 2001 and marrying her only seven months later. Steve and Calinda spent most of their sixteen years together as residents of Arlington, Texas where Steve worked as a project engineer at Facilities Solutions Group. Steve spent his spare time with his family and friends chasing adventures such as scuba diving, martial arts, gaming, and cooking.
Steve is preceded in death by his mother, Sandy, and sister-in-law, Renee’ Brooks. In addition to his wife, Calinda, Steve is survived by his father, Joe, and stepmother, Jane; son, Daniel Wells; brothers J.D. and Scott Brooks and sister-in-law, Janine. Steve is also survived by numerous, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Steve has too many cherished friends to list.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017, from 2-4 p.m. at Eubank Funeral Home of Canton, Texas. All who knew Steve are welcome to come and share any memories or stories to commemorate a life well lived. Steve will be interred at sea, later, by his closest friends and family.
Calinda would like to extend special thanks to Steve's work, scuba and martial arts families, and his lifelong best friends, Nate, Dave, and Robbie.
