The angels gathered together to bring our beloved father home on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, in Canton. Roger was born January 25, 1956 in Dallas to Walter Stanley and Dolores Elsia Mai Tucker Murphy.
A memorial service for Roger W. Murphy, 66, of Canton, will be held 11 am Monday, February 14, 2022, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton.
A proud Skeeter, Roger graduated from Mesquite High School in 1974. He married the love of his life Julie in Mesquite, TX. They shared a life filled with many wonderful years and priceless memories. He lived in the Balch Springs Dallas/Mesquite area for most of his early life until they chose their forever home in Canton, TX to raise their family. He retired after 33 years from Southwestern Bell. After that he worked contract labor for AT&T.
A collector of sorts, he enjoyed Fenton glass, cookie jars, coins, and plants. He enjoyed documenting and keeping the family genealogy up to date, it was so important to him. He spent many hours researching and learning our family's history and collecting photographs.
He loved gardening all of his life and would enjoy shopping for hours for the perfect flowers and plants to landscape the yard. His knowledge of plant names/species and their information was endless. He loved learning about them and tending to them. He absolutely loved music. He would dance and twirl his girls around the house and hold out his hand & say “Come dance with me!” He really enjoyed watching music videos and concerts.
You would find him most summers swimming in the lake behind their home with his girls and grand babies. He also loved fishing and enjoying the fireworks on the Fourth of July. He was always a big kid at Christmas. He loved to decorate the house and the Christmas tree with lots of ornaments. For many years, he delighted in decorating the outside of the house and watching as people would stop by to see. He was always the most excited to see everyone open their gifts and to spend time together. A season ticket holder, he loved Friday Night Football games and listening to the Canton Eagle Band.
Above all his family was his pride and joy. He loved spoiling his grandchildren, his girls, his sons, and his animals.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents and a cousin, Steven Tucker.
Roger is survived by his wife of 46 years, Julie Murphy; three daughters: Michelle White, Jennifer and Kevin Lyle and Tierney and Chaise Holmgren; seven grandchildren: Chelsea, Christian, Jacob, Baleigh, Karsen, Collin and Audrey; three brothers: Rocky and Debby Murphy, Michael Murphy and Mark Murphy and Marinda Stephens; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
As a son, brother, husband, father, Papa, uncle, and friend, Roger was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
