Roger passed away peacefully surrounded by family, after battling cancer for two years, September 5, 2022. He was born in Dawson, Texas on June 20, 1949 to Orval Bateman and Bonnie Denton Bateman.
Roger moved to Canton from Seagoville, TX in 1958 where he attended Canton schools and then graduated from Canton High School in 1968. Shortly after graduating, he joined the United States Air Force, he was stationed in Del Rio, TX from 1968 to 1971, then served as a Sergeant in the 51st War Ready Squadron in Osan, Korea from 1971 to 1973. After his time in the Air Force, on July 5, 1974, he married his true love, Susie VeraCruz, and then later had two fine sons, Roger and Bryan. In 1979 they returned to Canton, and he furthered his education receiving his associates degree in business. He then started his 42 year career as an auto parts specialist and eventually owned his own auto parts store in Van,TX. The couple had 48 beautiful years together.
Roger was a member of the Church of Christ on Big Rock in Canton. Roger’s hobbies included working on cars, hotrods, drawing, playing the drums, listening to music, fishing, traveling, camping, and spending time with his family. A huge enjoyment of his was watching his boys play sports. Roger was a huge supporter of family, which was most important to him. He will live on the memories and hearts of all that knew and loved him.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Bonnie Bateman.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Susie Bateman; sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Kimberly Bateman of Canton, Bryan and Britney Bateman of North Richland Hills; granddaughters, Katelyn and husband, Cole Shaw of Canton, Kylee, Madelyn and Claire; siblings, Coan and wife, Louise Bateman of Tyler, Jerry and wife, Anna Bateman of Canton, Pam and husband, Hank Cartwright of Ponte Vedra, FL.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
