Born August 1, 1937 in Columbus, Mississippi, Rayburn was the son of Charles and Rhoda Junkin Ashcraft. Although he left Mississippi after high school, his ties there remained close over the years with annual trips back to reconnect with his large extended family and friends.
Rayburn lived his 83 years guided by his love of God, and that of his family and friends. He was a veteran of the US Army where he served after graduating high school. Shortly after leaving the army, Rayburn began working at the post office, where he worked his way up to Postmaster of the O'Brien, TX post office. In 1992, he took retirement after 29 years of service. Throughout his life, Rayburn proudly provided guidance and fellowship to many as a Music Director in church and through his strong ties with the Masonic Lodge. There he was a highly respected Master Mason, Masonic Teacher and Worshipful Master. Proudly, Rayburn was awarded one of the most prestigious honors a mason can receive - a Golden Trowel. An active member in several lodges in North Texas over the years, Rayburn most recently attended the Castillian Lodge in Canton and the Grand Saline Lodge.
Rayburn is preceded in death by three brothers and one sister: Holley Mac, Samuel, Charles Richard and Mary Jo Hays. Also preceding him in death are his children, Laurie Pricer and Stephen Ashcraft.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Sammie; his children, Richard Ashcraft and Amber Broughton: his grandchildren and great-grandchild, his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Private Masonic services for Rayburn will be held at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with Bro. Steve Glosup officiating.
