Modine Montgomery, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend passed away from this life on Tuesday, February 9, 2021. Modine was born on May 27, 1923 to Corine and Elmer Chaney. She was a graduate of Canton High School and a lifelong resident of Canton.
She loved hummingbirds, bluebonnets, pink roses, and Charlie Pride songs; but her greatest pride in life was her four children whom she always encouraged to do their best. Modine loved to bake and enjoyed sending her homemade coconut pies and poppy seed bread to Canton High School where her son was teaching. Well into her 80’s Modine was active in the Canton Youth Recreational Association (CYRA). She spent countless hours trying to recruit donations and sponsors for the teams. Another favorite pastime was watching the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers on TV! If the games ran late after she had retired for the evening you could hear her call out “What’s the score, Kay?” She was a loving wife and mother who will be missed by all who knew her.
Modine is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 65 years, Lloyd Montgomery; her son, Bobby Eugene “Gene” Montgomery and her brother, Berkley Eugene “Chick” Chaney.
