A family graveside service will be held for Mary O. Pool, 88, of Canton, Texas at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2020 in Haven of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home with Pastor Adam Muckleroy officiating. At a later date, friends will gather for a memorial service to celebrate her life.
Mary O. Pool of Canton passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on May 2, 2020 in Greenville, Texas. She was born on April 25, 1932 in Dew, Texas to Archie Rawls Owens and Maurine Black Owens.
Mary grew up in the Freestone County area. On August 29, 1952 she married the love of her life, Arthur Pool. Arthur and Mary moved to Canton in 1954 where they raised their family. Mary was a member of First United Methodist Church in Canton for 66 years as she served on various committees and offices of the board, sang in the chancel choir, and was a very active member of United Methodist Women. She joyfully helped to prepare and serve meals and acted as a hostess with her friends for many church events. She volunteered at Manna Food Bank and was a member of Van Zandt County Christian Women. Mary worked as a secretary and a seamstress in the community for many years when her children were younger. In 1974, she became the clerical secretary for the Van Zandt-Rains County Special Education Co-op where she worked for over twenty years serving many educators, children and their families. Mary enjoyed doing yard work, sewing, cooking for her family and traveling with her daughters. Mary loved God and her family, and she was loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Mary is survived by her children Ann Pool of Greenville, Amy Pool of Greenville, Art and Judy Pool of Athens, Andy and Lynn of Weatherford; grandchildren, Heather and Ross Baldridge, Courtney and Nathan Penney, Aidan Pool, Amon Pool; great grandchildren, Andon Penney, Tripp Penney, Cooper Penney, Quaid Penney, Clark Baldridge, Claire Baldridge.
She is preceded in death by husband, Arthur, in 1999.
Memorials may be made to Manna Food Bank in Canton or a favorite charity.
