Burial will be in Haven of Memories, Canton, Texas.
He passed away October 16, 2014 in Canton, TX.
Mr. Greer was born January 31, 1925 in Como, TX, to William Carl Greer and Jennie Greer.
He was a founding member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Canton. Kyle's childhood home was Winnsboro, TX. His family was loving, hard working, and appreciated the simple joys in life. Kyle was devoted to his parents, respecting and providing for them until their deaths. He was a loyal brother to his siblings and grieved intensely when each died. His depth of love for them was evident, as he asked for his sister, Pearl, moments before his own death. At the young age of 18, he served in the US Army in World War II, receiving 2 Purple Hearts. The highlight of this phase of his life was meeting and marrying Neva, and their elopement began a love story that would span 71 1/2 years. God opened the door to his lifelong career in offshore drilling when he started as a "rough neck" for Shell oil. Throughout the industry he was affectionately known as "Shorty." After 32 years with Shell, he founded Greer Consultants, retiring from offshore drilling in 1997. Kyle loved his farm, hunting and fishing and worked hard at all of them. He was humble, kind and generous, quickly giving God the glory for accomplishments and blessings. Possibly his greatest trait was gratitude. Even in his worst hour and greatest pain during his illness, he never complained, but acknowledged and expressed thankfulness for every act of kindness and care. His eyes lit up at the sight of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and he loved few things more than family gatherings. However, there was no one who could light up his eyes like "Mama." Their love for each other was a gift from God, a priceless treasure that has left footprints on the hearts of every member of their family! Kyle Greer would want you to know that his greatest decision in life was placing his faith and trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. His faith was strong and sure during his illness, and his family rejoices that his life has only just begun!
