A committal service will be held at DFW National Cemetery at 1:15 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2020 for John “Johnny” Ernest Harris, 93, of Canton, Texas under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home, Bro. Gary Barnfield officiating.
Johnny passed away peacefully at home on October 16, 2020 with loved ones by his side. He was born on March 26, 1927 in Jonesville, LA to Archie Harris and Scharley Blackmon Harris. He grew up in Van Zandt County area and attended the Cream Level School. Johnny joined the U.S. Army Air Corp assigned to the 466th Air Service Group on November 29, 1945 until he was honorably discharged on March 18, 1948. He served his country for 3 years as an Auto Equipment Mechanic (014) in the European Theater during WWII.
He graduated in 1954 from International Bible College and became an ordained Minister. He was a tree trimmer by trade and drove a school bus for Martins Mill School.
Later in life he purchased the Old Martins Mill Store, where he and his beloved wife Shirley Mobley Harris of 27 years, owned and operated the store for 13 years until he retired in 2000. Every Friday night people came from all over to the Friday Night Jam Sessions at the Old Martins Mill Store. Come rain or shine they held the jam sessions where Johnny played guitar. Johnny was a compassionate and wonderful man who loved his family, country and he loved the Lord. Johnny will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his son Robert Mobley; brother, Charlie Harris and sister, Kitty Vance.
Johnny is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley Mobley Harris; children, Bruce Harris and wife, Debbie of Springfield Missouri, Jeanne Harris-Metter of Las Vegas, Nevada, Brian Mobley of Wichita Kansas, John Mobley of Canton, Texas, Myra Harrison and husband, Allen of Sanger, Texas; grandchildren, Stephanie Jett and husband, Alex, Joshua Mobley, Tori Ann Mobley, Sophia Mobley, Isabella Mobley, Madison and Emma Mobley; and a great-grandson on the way, Hayden Thomas Jett.
A visitation will be held on Thursday October 29, 2020 from 5-7 pm at the funeral home.
