Jennifer Ann Howell Lewis, beloved wife, daughter, mother, sister, aunt and niece, joined the church triumphant on October 16, 2023. She passed peacefully into the arms of God, surrounded by her family; and the light that is now gone from this world has only made heaven brighter still.
The second of two daughters born to parents Herbert and Jane Howell of Dallas, Texas on June 3, 1971, Jennie graduated from Bryan Adams High School in 1989 and went on to attend McMurry University in Abilene Texas obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies in 1993. She worked for several law firms in the Dallas area and concluded her work in the legal services field as a Claims Paralegal for Stewart Title.
In 2000 she found her true calling in education. She completed her teaching certification in 2001 and a Master of Arts in Education from Lamar University in 2006. She began her career in education as a 5th grade teacher at Cuellar Elementary School in Dallas, Texas. She joined the Richardson Independent School District in 2004 and served in a variety of roles at several schools throughout the district. In 2014, she left Richardson to join the staff of Simsboro Elementary School in Simsboro, Louisiana. She rejoined RISD in 2019 and was most recently serving as the Assistant Principal at Jess Harben Elementary School.
In the Fall of 1998 Jennie joined NorthPark Presbyterian Church. It was there that she met Frank Lewis, and the two were married on April 8, 2000. Jennie and Frank celebrated the arrival of their first child James in 2003, their daughter Lindsey in 2006, and son Matthew in 2007.
In September of 2011 Jennie was diagnosed with colon cancer; and so began her journey through the highs and lows of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. She won the war against cancer, but it weakened her heart to the point where in April of 2012 she suffered a massive heart attack. She was not expected to survive. By the grace of God and the inspired skill of her nurses and doctors she recovered; and against all odds, stayed with us for another 11 years; all the while living her life to the fullest, with grace, joy, and compassion.
Preceded in death by her father Herbert Howell, Jennie is survived by her husband Frank and their three children, her mother Jane Howell, sister and brother-in-law Sandra and Roger Hayes, niece Amanda Jane Hayes, nephew John Austen Hayes, sister-in-law Beth Lewis-Ryon and her husband London, nieces Leah and Sara Ryon; and a host of extended family throughout east Texas and Houston.
A memorial service and reception will be held at NorthPark Presbyterian Church, located at 9555 N. Central Expy. Dallas, TX 75231, at 11AM on Saturday, October 28, 2023. Those wishing to make memorial donations on Jennie's behalf are encouraged to give to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org), the American Heart Association (www.heart.org), or to Hendrick Home for Children (www. hendrickhome.org).
