Graveside services will be held at Haven of Memories Memorial Park in Canton.
James went Home to our Lord Jesus Christ, the One who first loved him, on June 7, 2020 in Rowlett, Texas.
He was born on September 30, 1943 in Wichita Falls, Texas to William Casper Johnston and Dorothy Grace Denman.
James grew up in Petrolia, Texas and graduated from Petrolia High School (‘62). He served in the United States Air Force (’65-’71) and was honorably discharged as a sergeant. He married Tommie Joyce Holt in 1971. They enjoyed 46 years of companionship and love. He was a hardworking, salt-of-the-earth outdoorsman who provided for his family’s happiness and well-being with his whole heart. He enjoyed his friendships throughout his life, especially those he and his wife formed during their happy years in Canton. He loved a good story – those he read, those he listened to, and those he told. He especially enjoyed the stories shared at his favorite annual event: the Johnston family reunion. His children and grandchildren were the pride of his life. He was a man of quiet faith who served the church with devotion.
James Johnston is preceded in death by his beloved wife; his parents; sister, Dorothy Briner; brother, William Johnston; brother, Wesley Johnston; brother, Marvin (Bob) Johnston; and sister, Wilma Vinzant; and 4 grandchildren, including grandson, Christian Blake Johnston; and grandson, Nathan Thomas Johnston.
James Johnston is survived by his son, Jason Johnston and wife Jennifer; son, Jerald Johnston and fiancée, Susan Ricketts; daughter, Janell Crow; son, Jimmy Johnston and wife Amanda; grandchildren, Corbin and Emma Crow; Scooter Brownlee, Kyle Luman, Elizabeth and Zac Stubblefield, and Victoria and Catherine Roop; Colton Johnston; Laura and Creed Johnston; sister, Mary Holloway; sister, Doris Goodner; sister, Barbara Laseman; and brother, Benjamin Johnston.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Jason Johnston, Jerald Johnston, Jimmy Johnston, Corbin Crow, Wes Johnston, and Jeffrey Johnston.
