Iva Dee Smith was born on December 05, 1923 to Ben and Hattie Lee Herron. She left our presence and entered into the arms of Jesus on Sunday morning, August 22, 2021. She was born into a family of five brothers and three sisters (Alvy, Nolen, Sherman, Dink, and twin brother, Bud; Lopez, Faye and Adene). She grew up in the Lawrence Springs Community in Grand Saline, Texas, where she met and married her husband, Luther Smith. The two were in the gospel ministry until Luther’s death in 2008. Iva Dee and Luther had one daughter, Peggy Smith Worsham, and one son, L. W. “Dubb” Smith. Dubb preceded her in death in 1991.
Going home before her were her parents and eight brothers and sister; and several nieces and nephews.
Iva Dee lived a beautiful life, faithful to her Lord, devoted to her husband, and the best mom and grandmother any child could possibly have.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Peggy Worsham (Leroy Worsham) of Hallsville, Texas. Five grandchildren – Rhonda Dawes and Darla Worsham of Hallsville, Texas; Kristi Worsham (Wendy Barrickman) of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; Shane Smith (Michele Smith) of Longview, Texas; Morgan Najar (Kelly Najar) of Carlsbad, New Mexico; 6 Great-Grandchildren, Devin Worsham (Kelsey Worsham); Nicole Swearingen (Jordan Swearingen); Dale Dawes, Kailee Metcalf (Luke Metcalf), and Marlee and Jaynon Najar; and 5 Great-Great Grandchildren Hensley Worsham and Kyson Denman; Lillian, Adelynn, and Heaven Metcalf; Several nieces and nephews, along with many friends and acquaintances, who will remember her as a dear and loving human being who always put others above herself.
