Mr. Whitaker passed away August 3, 2020 in Tyler. Leonard Eugene Whitaker was born September 1, 1925 in Snyder, Oklahoma to Leonard Raymond and Mary Vee Thompson Whitaker.
Eugene was a Christian by faith and an avid Bible reader. He was also a 33rd Degree Mason. Eugene was an inventor and obtained his first patent at the age of 12. He became an upholsterer for many years. He worked for Lincoln Mercury in Oklahoma and then became a water witcher. Eugene was also a farmer, salesman and a jack-of-all-trades.
Mr. Whitaker is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Mary Vee Whitaker; and his wife, "Beat" Whitaker.
Eugene is survived by his two daughters: Sissy Lynch of Ferris and Kay Bailey of Forney; six grandchildren: Letitia, Ken, Tiffany, Zack, Melissa and Wendy; ten great-grandchildren: Lanna, Jason, Tyler, Austin, Cameron, Ethan, Emily, Bailey, Carter and Kasey; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Gle and Jack Hardin of Amarillo.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Kenny Parker, Douglas Parker, Eugene Parker, Butchie Dugan, James Nicholson and John Nicholson.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home 6-8 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Social distancing and masks are required for the safety of family and friends.
