A Funeral service celebrating the life of Dortha Frances Munns, 95, of Athens, Texas will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Zion Hill Assembly of God Church in Athens, Texas (Walton Community) under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home, Bro. Wes Bynum officiating.
Dortha, known as “MoMo” by family and many others, went home to the Lord peacefully on September 8, 2023 in Athens, Texas. She was born on December 5, 1927 in Canton, Texas to David Monroe Risner and Sarah Emerson Risner.
Dortha grew up in the Whitton Community area of Van Zandt County. She loved the Lord and was Church of Christ by faith. On November 1, 1947 she married her one and only love, Floyd Munns. The couple had 54 beautiful years together till his passing in 2002. They raised a large family and love filled the home.
Dortha enjoyed reading her bible, gardening, canning, time with grandchildren and riding in parades in their horse drawn buggy. She was known for telling jokes. Dortha was an avid collector of many things, she was especially proud of her dolls and bells. Dortha’s best day was a day when all her family was together; she beamed with delight for the house to be filled with all her loved ones. Dortha will live on in the hearts and memories of all that knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, David and Sarah Risner; beloved husband, Floyd Munns; son, Paul Munns; grandson, Benjamin Ranne'; sister, Lavada True; brother, E. J. Risner.
Dortha is survived by her children: Denice Meredith and husband, Tim; Floy Ranne'; Vickie Wylie and husband, Cody; Marilynn May and husband, Johnny; Nathan Munns and wife, Larissa; Nancey Farmer and husband, Kenneth; Rhonda Barrilleaux and husband, Lionel; grandchildren: Jennifer Alexander, Jeremy Meredith, Jessica Crye, Bethany Fort, Lyndsay Shepherd, Aricka Easterling, Ariana Spoon, Steven May, Kenna May, Rylie May, Macie Ellis, Brittney Dupree, Taylor Munns, Sarah Williams, Hannah Winters, Michael Farmer, Dustin Farmer and Tristan Barrilleaux; 22 great grandchildren; brothers, Lewis Risner, Jimmy Risner and David Risner; and numerous nieces and nephews; special care givers, Barbara Ward, Lisa Collins, Diane Griser, Stephanie Robertson; A very special nurse and granddaughter, Bethany Fort; and a host of friends. A special thank you to her hospice care team.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Eubank Funeral Home.
Interment will be at Zion Hill Cemetery in Athens, Texas.
