Dorothy Jean Brewer

Services for Dorothy Jean Brewer, 88, of Rockwall, will be held 11 am Friday, January 18, 2019, at the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Rockwall with Father Antonio Hernandez officiating. Interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.

Mrs. Brewer passed away January 11, 2019, at her home in Rockwall. She was born September 8, 1930 in Portland, Oregon to Robert and Pauline Martha Ullman Beckman.

Dorothy was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Dallas. She grew up in Portland and lived in San Francisco from 1950 to 1954. After marrying Ben Brewer, they lived in many different places such as Washington, Oregon, California, and Texas. Dorothy enjoyed travelling and spending time at their second home in Vancouver, Washington. She loved going to garage sales, cooking and playing dominos. Dorothy was a caregiver to many people and a friend to everyone. She always had a smile on her face which is how she received the nickname, "Smiles," when she was a little girl.

Mrs. Brewer is preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Pauline Beckman; husband of 62 years, Ben W. Brewer; two infant sons: David Brice and James Randall Brewer; sister, Marie Kortas; and half-brother, Robert Russell Beckman.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and James Cook of Plano; granddaughter, Victoria Nicole Cook; three grandsons: Larry Cook, Jeffrey Cook and Christopher Cook and wife, Rosario.

Family will receive friend 1-3 pm Thursday, January 17, 2019, at the funeral home.
