David was born in Clardy, Texas, on June 27, 1940, to Pat and Sammie Short McGill. One of 10 children in his family, he loved to play sports growing up. During school he participated in all sporting activities and received the award for “Most Athletic” his junior year of high school. He graduated from Deport High School as a proud member of the class of 1958. Following high school in 1961, David honorably joined the army reserves and served America for 6 years. After his service, David was happy to meet the love of his life. Darlene thought he was the most handsome man in the world and seeing him made her smile. They were married on May 10, 1969, and enjoyed 53 wonderful years together. During that time, David worked mostly in the office and with switch masters of the railroad company. He was very easy to get along with and be friends. David was a very soft-spoken, patient man, who liked to joke around. He was calm and enjoyed a simple, quiet life.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents Pat and Sammie McGill; his caring sisters: Joyce Pennington, Virginia Damron, Wanda Cavender, Juanita McGill, Clara Joy McGill; and fun loving brothers: Gaylon McGill, Glen McGill and Larry McGill.
David is survived by his caring family: wife, Darlene McGill; daughter, Stacey Rowe and husband, Travis; granddaughters: Abbie Rowe and fiancé, Cullen Earp, Elleah Rowe; sister, Patsy Hulett; sister-in-law, Maxine McGill; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service.
