Mr. Lewis passed away April 28, 2018, at his home. He was born May 5, 1929, in McKinney, TX to Hester Clay and Leona Brown Lewis.
Clarence was a Baptist by faith. He worked hard his entire life. He began his working career at Hudson Motor Car, then Pontiac Division of GM, and then Claude Hall Wrecking Yard. From there he worked for Borden’s Milk Company and later owned and operated three dump trucks. Clarence worked for Greyhound Bus Lines and then advanced to Greyhound Van Lines. After retiring in 1972, he began farming and ranching in Ben Wheeler. Mr. Lewis was elected the Justice of Peace for Van Zandt County Precinct 4. He became a director at the Van Zandt County Farm Bureau, while running the Farm Bureau Store in Canton and served as a delegate for Farm Bureau for the State of Texas. He loved horses.
Mr. Lewis is preceded in death by his wife, Jean Lewis. He is survived by his son, Larry (Sue) Lewis of Louisville, Kentucky; daughter, Carolyn Holmes of Pflugerville, TX; grandson, Skip Lewis of Ben Wheeler, TX, one step-grandson Christopher Blakely of Louisville, KY; 2 step-grandchildren: Missty Beaird (Tim) of Temple, TX and Maxwell (Christina) Holmes of Frisco, TX; 3 great-grandchildren: Araya Holden, Cody Warrington and Emma Blakely; seven step great-grandchildren: Corban Beaird, Coltan Beaird, Cohan Beaird, Chloe Beaird, Cael Beaird, Kobe Wilson, Kylie Holmes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Skip Lewis, Corky Randolph, Will Morgan Jr., Daniel Chambers, Dewayne Blakely and Thomas Simpson. Honorary pallbearer is Clarence Ritchie.
Interment will be in Haven of Memories.
Family will receive friends 5-8 pm Friday at the funeral home.
