Clara Oldfield Terry Hoover Brewer died June 27, 2022, at the age of 101. Clara had recently moved to Canton Oaks Nursing Home in Canton, Texas. Her service will be held at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton, TX on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be noon until 1:00 p.m. Interment at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Canton, Texas.
Clara was the daughter of Henry Clay and Martha Heffington Oldfield born April 8, 1921, in the Wise Community.
After graduating from high school in Canton, Texas, Clara went to visit a cousin in Waco and interviewed for a position with the local telephone company as a telephone operator. The next year she transferred to the Dallas office of AT & T.
In her early years in Dallas, she married Coleman Terry, he drowned in 1958 while swimming. Several years later she met and married Dr. Charles Hoover and was blessed with Brenda and Michael Hoover.
Clara retired from her job as supervisor of Telephone Traffic in 1979. She and Charles built a home on the 40 acres given to her by her father in the Wise community. The Hoovers were active members of the Canton Church of Christ. She taught children’s Bible study classes at her church. Charles Hoover died January 27, 2005.
Clara loved to work on Oldfield family genealogy and tracing her Tennessee family roots. She was a big supporter of the Whitten and Wise Community. Clara worked with the Van Zandt County Historical Society helping to erect several Historical Markers in the county. She attended meetings of the Daughters of the Confederacy in the local chapter and was active in the Whitten Quilting Club. She was a CASA volunteer for several years.
When Clara was 85 years young, she married former Canton High School classmate, McLee Brewer. They enjoyed eating out, visiting family members, going to the Brewers for quilting club and continued church attendance. They made several trips to Colorado. McLee died at age 99 on April 4, 2020.
She was preceded in death by husbands: Coleman Terry, Dr. Charles Hoover, McLee Brewer; daughter, Brenda Hoover Stateler; brothers, Henry Odell, James A. (Jack), Lindy Oldfield; sisters, Sarah Lee Norman and Henrietta Sadler; niece, Sue Ann Norman Parks; nephew, Mike Norman.
Survived by son, Michael Hoover; granddaughters, Ashley Walters and Jamie Stateler - Partain; sister- in- law, Roberta Oldfield of Sayre OK; nephews, Ronnie, Barney and Randy Oldfield; Tennessee nieces, Pam Hoffman, Laleta Shipper, Kristina McKee and Nicola Vantrease.
Clara will be interned at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Van Zandt County of the Watkins Community where she will join Five generations of her family.
