Bob Barber

Bob passed away on October 5, 2024 in Allen, Texas, where he resided.

Bob was born at home on December 15, 1926 in Mancos, Colorado to Clifford and Abbie Barber. He grew up in Ithaca, New York. He graduated from University of Georgia with a BA. Bob met Irene while serving in the Army during WWII. They married May 14, 1949.

In 1954, Continental Insurance company transferred Bob and his young family to Dallas, Texas. They finally settled in east Dallas and became very active members of St. Pius Catholic Parish. He served on the finance committee and helped build the convent among other things. He served as a Scoutmaster to the 707. He enjoyed all aspects of the Scouts, especially the 25 mile hikes he led at Camp Philmont.

At 55, he retired from Continental and immediately began to work for Employer’s Insurance from which he retired.

Bob and Irene bought the farm where they eventually moved after final retirement. He really enjoyed perfecting his fields to compete for the Best Hay Award. He had a beautiful garden each year. He lived for hard work.

Dad and Mom attended St. Therese when it was held in the funeral home. He was a very active member of this parish, helping from the ground up. He donated much of his time and money to help the church. He prayed his rosary and wore his scapular to the end.

Bob was an extremely active builder throughout Texas: Bishop Lynch football stadium and locker rooms, Athens Fishery pavilion, barns for friends and for himself and many projects at St. Therese, to name a few.

Dad enjoyed being social his whole life. His hobbies through the years included playing musical instruments, woodworking, farming, skating and big family gatherings at the farm.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Abbie and Clifford, his sister, Phyllis, his brother, Billy, his daughter, Teresa and his loving wife, Irene.

He is survived by his children Debbie, David, Jeff, Jane, Jacque, Mary, Lisa, Joan, 32 grandchildren, 52 great-grans and 5 great-great-grans.

Bob will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Irene, at Cana Cemetery in Van Zandt County, Texas.
