Betty Ann Ryer

Betty Ann Singleton Ryer, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, left this earthly home for her heavenly home on Saturday, August 1, 2020, following a short illness. Betty was born on September 3, 1933, in Dallas, Texas, to Irene Jett Singleton and George Singleton.

Betty was Mom to Debbie Ryer, Cindy Mankin and her husband, Mark, Michael Ryer and his wife, Dana, and a special son, Edgar Jimenez and wife, Miranda. She loved her grandchildren: Alex Mankin and wife, Jennifer, Lauren Bond and husband, Justin, Bret Mankin, Spencer Mankin and wife, Jessica, Kristen Duke, Torri Duke, Ashlie Kraus and husband, Lloyd, and Austin Ryer and wife, Makenzie. She has two step-grandchildren, Codye Sides and husband, Chris, and Scott Duke and wife, Lucinda. She had fourteen great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Ryer, Joy, Anne, Grace, Will, Lucas, Deckard, Jacob, Eric, Matt, Josh, Jeffrey and Kailah. She was preceded in death by her mother, father and her husband, Edward Ryer.

Betty grew up in the Dallas suburb of Riley until she moved to Canton with her family. She was a member of and baptized at Oak Grove Baptist Church on April 13, 1950, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School that same spring. During those high school years, she met a young man, Edward Ryer, who stole her heart and they were married on September 15, 1950. They spent the next 69 years sharing their love for each other with anyone and everyone they met. The two were married at Oak Grove Baptist Church and soon thereafter began building their family of five, plus a few hundred more.

In 1965, they moved to their forever home outside of Canton and kept it open for hundreds of youth and children over the years. Betty was a foster mom to over 74 children who were too young to enter the Buckner’s Children’s Home, taking them into her home, nurturing them and giving them the steady homelife these children so deserved. Soon after moving to Canton, they joined First Baptist Church and served with the youth programs, sponsoring mission trips, youth camps, and virtually any trip the church took with the young people. She faithfully taught Sunday School and Women’s Bible Studies up until 2019 when she became too weak to teach due to her illness. Countless lives have been touched and changed as they opened up their home to the youth of Canton every summer for swimming at their pool. They kept an open door policy for anyone who wanted to come and swim (as long as they attended church the week before!)

Visitation will be Tuesday evening, August 4, 2020, from 6:00-8:00 pm, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with the funeral services held at 10:30 am, August 5, 2020, at the funeral home. At 1:00 pm, there will be a brief graveside service at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Seagoville, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and the family’s desire to keep everyone safe, we ask that strict adherence to the social distancing protocols are kept and that masks must be worn at all times.
