He was born September 20, 1918 in Burgettstown, PA to the late Audley John and Edith (Colville) Cassidy. Tom graduated from Washington High School in Washington, PA. He attended the University of Pittsburgh. Tom was drafted into the US Army in January 1942; served in the CBI theater during WWII; and held the rank of Captain at the time of his honorable discharge in 1953. Tom retired from NCR in 1975, after 37 years of service in Pittsburgh, Rockford, Akron, and Canton. Upon retirement, he and Ellen Harrold built and operated Promway Kennels until 1992. Ellen and Tom were married in 1988. Tom became an avid motorcycle enthusiast, and with Ellen, he toured Israel, Europe, Australia, and all of the United States by motorcycle. Tom was a member of F&AM Lodge 735 of Cuyahoga Falls, and was past director of ABKA.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Caroline; and his brother, George. Tom is survived by his wife of 26 years, Ellen Cassidy; and his niece, Jayne Cassidy.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00pm on Friday in the Karlo-Libby Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Plauger officiating. Tom’s cremated remains will be laid to rest at Mount Eaton Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 5-7pm, two hours before the service at the funeral home. No ceremonies are planned.
