Dick was born June 22, 1936 in North Canton to the late John Peter and Cecelia (Shaneman) Marchand. He was a graduate of Jackson High School and went on to become a certified Auto Mechanic from Commercial Trades Institute. Dick served in the US Army from 1955 to 1957 when he was honorably discharged. During his time in the Army he served as a military policeman and earned a Good Conduct Medal. Dick then went on to work for the East Ohio Gas Company for 37 years as a Foreman and then Treasurer until he retired in 1998. In 1959, Dick married Sandra (Simpson) Marchand, and they celebrated 63 years of marriage together. Dick and Sandra were members of St. Paul's Catholic Church for many years. Dick enjoyed hunting and fishing in Minnesota. He was an avid mushroom hunter, a master Euchre card cheater, a Miller Lite connoisseur (aka "2 Beer Marchand"), a SNES mastermind, a meticulous lawn keeper, a gourmet chef, and a rose garden extraordinaire.
Along with his loving wife, Sandra, Dick is survived by his four children: Wendy (Mike) Scarbrough. Scott (Elizabeth) Marchand. Ann Marchand-Minor, and Chris (Candy) Marchand; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Joan Rohr and Carol Smith.
Along with his parents, Dick is preceded in death by an infant son, Richard Raymond Marchand, Jr., and four brothers and four sisters.
Per Dick's requests a cremation will take place and a private graveside service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his name to Father Robert Goodyear C/O Holy Rosary Indian Mission, PO Box 37, Philadelphia, MS 39350-0037.
