Judy was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on September 22, 1947 to the late James and Naomi (Lynch) Bennett. Judy was a graduate of Worthington High School in 1965. She then went on to obtain a Bachelor’s degree from Kent State University, where she was head cheerleader from 1965 to 1969. Judy worked as an elementary teacher for over 30 years, the majority of those years were spent at North Canton City Schools. In 1998, after completing the rigorous requirements, she was awarded the National Board Certification in Education. Judy was a longtime member of the Canton Baptist Temple (CBT), where she volunteered to work with the Exceptional Class for those with disabilities, which she did for over 40 years. She also faithfully led Bible Studies at the Stark County Juvenile Attention Center. Judy was a devoted mother and grandmother. When she wasn’t spending time with her grandchildren, she loved spending her time scrapbooking, tutoring, and serving others.
Judy is survived by her children: Meagan (Michael) Hedrick, Nathan (Victoria) Chester, and Erin (Robert) Wilson; seven grandchildren: Mackenzie, Sydney, Bode, Ryann, Tanner, Max, and Dane; one sister, Marjorie Stephens, one sister-in-law, Karen Bennett, and many other extended family members.
Along with her parents, Judy is preceded in death, by her brother, Stephen Bennett, and her brother-in-law, Roger Stephens.
Calling hours for Judy will be held at the Canton Baptist Temple on Friday, April 28, 2023 from 3:30-5 p.m. Funeral services will begin on Friday at CBT at 5:00 pm with Dr. Jake Tovissi officiating. Judy will be privately laid to rest at Union Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio.
