John was born in Canton on March 24, 1927 to the late Frank and Helen (Pearson) Bracken. He was an Army veteran of WWII. John was retired from US Steel in Canton after 30 years. He worked for Doershuck Plumbing in North Canton for more than 25 years, and was self-employed at North Canton Home Drain since 1972. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed gardening. He enjoyed watching the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Cleveland Indians, and NASCAR. He was a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather and was an excellent provider to his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. He was a loving husband of 71 years to Evelyn Bracken; loving father of four children, Jackie (Mike) Firth, Jon (Melonie) Bracken, Joni (Chuck Howard) Reik, and Jennifer (Bob) Smer; grandchildren, Michael (Annette) Firth, Nicole (Chris) Schrader, Eric and Heather Smer, Jon Bracken, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Derek Firth, Katelyn Firth, Tyler Firth, Addison Schrader, and Ashtyn Schrader; two sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the doctors and staff of Aultman Hospital and Aultman Woodlawn Compassionate Care Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Aultman Woodlawn Compassionate Care Center, 2821 Woodlawn Avenue NW, Canton, Ohio 44708.
No ceremony is planned. In accordance with John's wishes his body will be cremated with inurnment in Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville.
