Howard “Howie” Grover Beaufait, age 80, of Canton, OH, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, March 25, 2021. Born in Cleveland, OH, to the late Howard and Hazel (Krauss) Beaufait, he was a graduate of Cleveland Heights High School and attended Ohio University. Howie was a United States Air Force veteran. He began his career at Ohio Valley Insurance Company in Cleveland, OH, and moved to Canton, OH, working for Chesterfield Insurance Companies before retiring as President and owner in 1998.
Howie is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Joan (Heitkamp) Beaufait; his son, Greg (Lisa) and their children, Brett and Ryan of Canton, OH; daughter, Nicole (Scott) Daugherty and their children, Alexandra and Kendall of Charlotte, NC; and son, Eric (Megan) and their children, Charlie and Maggie of Easton, MD; and many nieces and nephews. Howie was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Elaine (Merle) Owen and Jan (Al) Corso.
Howie enjoyed life to the fullest and had many hobbies including sailing, skiing, and golfing, but his greatest pleasure was traveling and spending time with his family and friends. He was extremely generous and never hesitated to help anyone in need.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Inn at Belden Village, Mercy Medical Hospice, and personal caregivers, Deb, Shannon, and Debbie.
There will be a service at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH on April 16, 2021 at 10:00am. The family will have a celebration of Howie’s life on June 19th from 12:00-4:00pm at Glenmoor Country Club. All friends and family are welcome.
Howie lived courageously with Alzheimer’s for ten years. The family asks that in the spirit of “Howie’s Heroes”, donations be made to the Greater East Ohio chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
