Dennis “Denny” L. Rapp, 77, of North Canton, Ohio, passed away on March 15, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on March 10, 1946, in Youngstown, Ohio, to the late Harvey and Geneva (Boyce) Rapp.
Denny was a loving husband, father, grandfather and dogfather. He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Brenda Rapp; son Ken (Patty) Rapp; daughter Debbie (Tim) Harris; five grandchildren, Hunter Rapp, Spencer Rapp, Mackenzie Harris, Zac Harris, and Caden Timpe; many nieces and nephews; and his pug, Humphrey. Denny was preceded in death by his siblings: Bobbie Rapp, Doris Ford, Jeanette Metzger, and Ronnie Rapp.
Denny was a gifted musician and began playing drums in the 5th grade, something he continued for more than 60 years. He was the first member of his family to attend college, receiving a bachelor’s degree in education from Youngstown State University. He later earned his master’s in education from the University of Akron. He became a much-loved Band Director at Jackson Local School District where he received straight superior ratings his last year of teaching. He spent the majority of his career in sales, where he won awards for selling everything from musical instruments, school fundraising items, and law books. He also worked as an investigator for the Stark County Public Defender’s office. In retirement, he met great friends and enjoyed spending his time driving for Lexus. Denny and Brenda recently relocated to a new neighborhood, where their neighbors have extended their friendship and enriched their lives.
A devoted volunteer, Denny was a member of the North Canton Lions Club, as well as the Ohio Lions, for 29 years. He held various chairmanships and directed the select Ohio Lions Band. For 14 years, Denny and Brenda were Volunteer Managers for Youth for Understanding (YFU) International Student Exchange Program. During that time, they expanded their family by welcoming many exchange students into their home. As an active member of his church, Denny sang in the Chancel Choir, Men’s Chorus and Men’s Quartet. At home, he always made family laugh with silly songs of his own.
Denny enjoyed traveling the world with his wife, working out at the YMCA, and eating Peeps. He never met a stranger and will be remembered for his dedication to his faith, love for his family, and booming, infectious laugh. Countless people were touched by Denny’s kindness and humor, and he will be dearly missed by his family, friends and community.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 23, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Karlo-Libby Funeral Home, 5000 Everhard Rd. NW, Canton.
