Son of the late Gertrude (Rosenberg) and Benjamin Solomon, husband of the late MD (Candy) (Scherer) Solomon and father of Ari Solomon. Brother of the late Anne (Solomon) Frager and the late Al Solomon. Richard was born in Boston and spent his early years in Roxbury, after which he lived in Brookline for many years. He later moved to Newton and then Wayland.
He had a successful career in the computer field where he became a valued expert. He greatly enjoyed boating, and many enjoyed rides on his boat at Nantasket. He also had a deep bond with the amazing dogs he has had over the years.
His wife, Candy, was devoted to him and helped him maintain an active life for many years. After she died, his nephew, Steve Frager, undertook many tasks to enable Richard to keep living on his own and Richard’s friends and neighbors were a big help. Richard was also supported by an amazing team of aides and nurses. Among the team members, he and his family are especially grateful to Julianna Chandler and Christine Doherty.
Richard’s life has deeply inspired those who know him well, for despite much pain and many trips to the Emergency Department, he lived a very full life. He lived many decades longer than his doctors expected. We are grateful for his love, his insights, his interests, patience, good humor, and especially his grit and determination.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service on Wednesday, May 10, at 11a.m. at Shara Tfilo Cemetery, 776 Baker Street, West Roxbury.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s name may be made to the National Hemophilia Foundation at www.hemophilia.org.
