Marty passed away surrounded by family on January 8th, 2022 at the age of 79. A resident of Wayland, Marty is survived by beloved wife Nancy, his children Eric and wife Natalie of Manhattan NY, and Darren and his wife Johanna of Manchester MA. He was a proud grandfather to Gabrielle, Natacha, Phoebe and Wesley. He will be missed by all.
Marty was the definition of a self-made man. Born and raised in Revere, MA, Marty excelled academically at an early age and developed a lifelong love of learning, culminating in earning his PhD in electrical engineering and computer science from Northeastern University. His graduate work included a NASA fellowship working on the Apollo Project and work at MIT’s Draper Laboratory. While at Northeastern, he met the love of his life, Nancy, sharing a life that spanned more than 50 years of marriage. Marty served in the US Army as a Lieutenant in the Signal Corps from 1970 to 1972. Marty continued his patriotic service through building a successful career in the communications industry with Sylvania, GTE and Verizon. His roles carried him around the world helping implement civil and military communications networks for our nation and our allies. After retiring, Marty spent time as a professor of Statistics and Calculus at Babson College. He could always be found reading a book at the shore on the deck of the Manchester By-the-Sea Bath & Tennis Club, taking courses with BOLLI at Brandeis University, walking the beaches of Hilton Head, SC, or dining out with friends and family.
Marty would consider his greatest achievement his family. A dedicated father and husband, Marty was always there for his sons and grandkids. He will forever be known for his good nature, incredible intellect and his inability to say no to his wife Nancy.
