Harvey graduated from Brookline High School in 1952. He graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1956, and later obtained a J.D. at Boston University School of Law and an LL.M. at Suffolk University Law School. He was a founding partner of Tofias, Fleishman, Shapiro & Co., which became the largest independent accounting firm in New England.
He married Marcia Fleishman of New York on December 23, 1956, and was a loving and devoted husband for 66 years. He was the beloved father of Risa Lifshatz and Susan Fleishman, grandfather of Dan and Nicole Lifshatz, Jenna and Hunter Reynolds, and Elena Michele Fleishman, and great-grandfather of Olivia Lifshatz.
In the metropolitan Boston area, he lived in Newton, Brookline, and Wayland. He also had residences in Falmouth, MA, and Highland Beach, FL.

Memorial observance will be at the home of Jill and Peter Matusow on Tuesday, October 8th from 5-8 PM, with a Minyan service at 7 PM.
