Great loss of a friend, a scholar, dynamic mind, who was beloved by all. David was a beacon of light when I can to NYC in 1974. We departed with a lasting friendship of many years. David was a peer, friend, close in his relations and caring for others. We will miss him and remember him forever.

I have know David since age 4 and I feel his loss very deeply. As young psychiatrists we used to meet at the annual meeting of American Psychiatric Association-many stories to tell there. David was a very passionate person with zero pretense-His emotional honesty was unsurpassed, He wore his heart on his sleeve. 
He has been taken from us much too soon. 

Our sincere condolences to Sharon, Bayle, Melissa, Don, Susan, and the extended family.   Over the years,  David would visit us wherever we seemed to be - and that included Oklahoma, Washington, D.C. and elsewhere.  He was always a delight...so humorous - he made us laugh, and so insightful - he made us think.  We so enjoyed being at his wedding with Sharon, seeing him happily married, and then producing two beautiful daughters.  May cousin David's memory be a blessing and may his family be comforted among the mourners of Zion.

David was a kind and caring person. We were very grateful for his friendship and regard. We will miss him very much.

My dear Uncle David.  I loved spending time with him in Winnipeg.  He always reminded me of his dad, my Uncle Misha, who was a special person to me in my early childhood.  I wish I had the chance to visit David in MA.  However, we had the opportunity to speak by phone many times since 2018, and he even provided guidance as I battled with my mental health that year.  I will never forget him - his memory will always be a blessing to me.

At this time of sadness I am recalling all the good times David, Lawrie, I and others shared as “free range” young boys growing up in River Heights of the 50s and 60s through to car pooling to the University of Manitoba .

My condolences to all the Starr family. David and I grew up together in Winnipeg and were friends from our earliest school days. It will not surprise you to know he was the smartest in the class. He always thought out of the box and it is no surprise that he became a psychoanalyst. I had the pleasure of spending time with him and his family in Vancouver and at Whistler during the Winter Olympics in 2010 and also one summer. We have kept in touch over the years and more recently every week. He was not well but we had the pleasure of sharing our love for the Patriots. I have many humorous stories and will share them with the family another time. I will miss our time together.

My heartfelt sympathies to Sharon and family. David and I were good friends as teenagers growing up in the tight-knit Jewish community in Winnipeg in the 50’s and 60’s. We attended high school and university together. He was known as a very bright, hard-working, analytic and compassionate individual- traits that made him an excellent psychiatrist. I fondly remember many lengthy philosophical formative discussions and our time as co-chairs of World University Service at U. of Manitoba. He will be sorely missed.
