Arnold was born in Taunton on November 4, 1937 to the late Mary L. (Cornetz) and Joseph Schein. He is survived by his son Jeffrey A. Schein and his fiancé Lori Flint of Randolph, VT; his daughter Andrea Schein and her husband Steven Schmidt of Beverly, MA; his grandchildren Timothy Schein and Daniel Schein; and his brother Harold Schein of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. He is predeceased by his brothers Henry, Leo, Irving, and Edward Schein; and sisters Ethel Schein Buscemi, Lillian Bayer, and Ruth Maniloff.
After graduating from Taunton High School, he served his country as a corpsman in the Navy from 1954 to 1959. After receiving his Honorable Discharge he returned home to Taunton and married Adele Shality from Brockton, MA. Arnold began his professional career in sales working for the John Hancock Insurance Co. In 1971 he stepped away from his successful stint in the insurance industry and started his own business. He purchased and successfully managed the Westgate Shell gas station on Oak Street in Brockton. He eventually acquired three more auto repair garages around Brockton and grew a very successful towing company. In 1987 Arnold returned to the sales force working for various auto dealers in Randolph, Brockton, Bridgewater and Warwick, RI. In 1992 Arnold received the award for top Honda salesman of the year for the Northeast region of the U.S. winning an all-expense paid trip to San Diego, CA to meet with Honda of America’s CEO and Board of Directors.
At age 60 he packed up his belongings and moved to Florida, first living in Titusville working at the Astronaut Hall of Fame then moving north to Kissimmee and working for Walt Disney World. He first worked as a lifeguard at Blizzard Beach, then a restaurant manager at the Animal Kingdom, and eventually acquired his CDL through Disney and drove a shuttle bus for the company. He remained in Florida for 10 years eventually returning home to Brockton in 2007. At age 70 Arnold had an innate desire to learn how to use a computer so he signed up for classes at the Ames Free Library in North Easton, MA and developed a passion for writing. He started writing monthly newsletters for his friends and family and even had several op ed articles published in the Brockton Enterprise newspaper. In 2019 he moved to Randolph, Vermont to be closer to his son, Jeffrey and live out his remaining years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 2 PM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne, MA. Please enter the cemetery through the main entrance and follow the line-up signs for funeral burial to your right for the service. Please arrive between 1:30-1:45 PM.
