I have so many cherished memories with you, Mom.  You and Dad were such fun, adventuresome parents taking us to so many different sights to see, places to hike and camp.  It was a wonderful childhood exploring the outdoors, spending time at the cabin, sharing family dinners with our large extended family, the get togethers in the backyard, the continual music on in our home, your delicious meals and unconditional love.  You were always there for me no matter the circumstance.  I will always appreciate your hard work helping with the painting, the curtains, the bed quilts, bed skirts, etc.... once I had a home of my own.  The endless hours of games throughout our life together were the best!  Your devotion to Dad, our family, your church was  much more than admirable.  You made everything better, more beautiful, cleaner, more organized and more special.  It was too soon to say good bye to you on this earth of ours.... I know you are an angel in Heaven organizing fun get togethers and making everything more beautiful like you did here on earth.  There are not enough words to express how deep my love is for you.  You will always be in my heart, in my mind and be my favorite, favorite, favorite person.  Until we meet again.... I will continue to cherish what a beautiful soul you are and forever will be.... May the Grace of God keep you close to me.  I love you, Mom! 

Grandma was an exceptional soul who loved life and bringing joy to others. We are blessed to have had the unparalleled memories that we did with her: holidays, our wedding, trips to the cabin in Wrightwood, her unbeatable recipes, and most especially- competitive card games. Watching the love continue to grow between her and grandpa after 61 years of marriage will continue to inspire us for the rest of our lives. We will miss her and her beautiful smile until we are reunited with her again one day.

My family and I have had the privilege of meeting Sue many times over the last two decades. Sue was so cheerful and engaging. I Loved chatting with her and admired the close relationships she had with her girls and grandchildren.  Whenever I had the chance to see Sue she was always smiling especially because spending precious time with Christine, Devon, Drew and Connor. You and John created so many wonderful memories with friends and family. My fondest memory was all the gatherings in your warm home seeing you and John dancing impeccably together, with your backyard filled with joyous talking and laughter. Plus all of the awesome camping trips at Reds Meadow for over 40 years. You were always an early riser and we would all wake up to the aroma of fresh coffee brewing and sizzling bacon.  We will miss you Susie.  I love that you were my sister-in-law by marriage but my sister and dear friend by choice.  Rest In Peace 💕💕💕

Our sincere condolences to John and the family. Sue was a beautiful person. She was a light, and a treasure, with a big heart that showed great empathy and care for everyone around her. John and Barb Sanders loved her very much and have so many memories they shared over the years. Barb always raved about her dear friend including how nice she ALWAYS looked. The hard work and dedication she gave the First United Methodist Church of Reseda was saintly and she did it with thoughtfulness and joy. What a blessing she was to the Sanders family and to her church family. We love you, and we will miss you Sue. Rest in God's peace.

We have known Sue and John for many years. They are a delightful couple . John is a Past Master of Reseda Lodge  Sue was always along side of John with a smile and a helpful hand. We were members of The Ventures(A masonic comping club). We travel together. Sue loved to play games at the campouts, W e went to a NCT rally in Ames Iowa and had a great time. When ever there was work to be done Sue was the first to step up and help. We will always remember her a be proud to call her a friend 

Ernest and I are blessed to have known Sue at FUMC Reseda. I will never forget the time she readily offered to give me a much needed ride, despite her being busy then at a church work activity. Her legacy of service will endure. We will miss her warm smile and the lively chats we had with her. We will always hold her dear in our hearts.


You have been the best Mom, the best Grandma, the best Friend, the best Wife; the bright light in so many lives. You will forever be in my heart. I love you Dearly Mom.  

Oh my friend Sue I sure am going to miss you, so many things come to mind,our time with the sewing group our time with the golden agers, and the times you were there to help us at our outreach times, you were always there to help to make sure that every thing was done the right and beautiful way, you were so proud of our church..so many good  times come to mind...missing you so much  you  will always be here with us...

I will truly miss Sue and loved the sparkle in her eye whenever she spoke of her family.   I will miss seeing her at church and remember every moment we shared sewing  infant gowns  and blankets for UMCOR, pillows and head scarves  for cancer patients at Kaiser and many quilts for infants during our  Sew'n Sew's weekly meetings.  No one could sew like Sue!

I will miss seeing her in the sanctuary preparing for Sunday's service, making sure that everything was in perfect order.  I will miss her at all the Outreaches, fundraising, rummage sales, Golden Agers, UMW and, especially,  the way she and my mother would spend so much time lining up the many Christmas poinsettias and Easter lilies in the sanctuary preparing for Sunday service.   Oh my.....so many times I would roll my eyes observing them.  But, later,  sitting in church,  seeing how they were so perfectly lined up in neat rows, I couldn't help but smile and think to myself, PERFECT!

From the moment I first heard of Sue's passing,  fond memories have kept arising in my mind.  Conversations.  Events.  Visits with John and Sue in their home.  Photos of family.  Stories and vacations.  Meals and celebrations that we shared together.

As I have tried to arrange these memories, I have come to the conclusion that Sue and I enjoyed a rather mischievous relationship.  Here is but one Christmas example.  

Sue confronted me, trying her best to look serious - "How did those chrismons get on that Christmas tree at the church?  Did you do that?  And the lights - did you climb on that ladder by yourself?  You know that I said I would help you?"

On occasions such as this, I would just respond, 'maybe' - and Sue's face would break into such a beautiful smile.  On the one hand, I knew she was so proud to support me as her pastor.  Yet, on the other hand, there was no doubt in the world that she would get me back (which she did often) because no one in this church was ever going to out work Sue Cunningham.

It was during such precious times as these, that I recall Sue telling me about her wedding in the Chapel at Reseda.  Her marriage to John meant so much to her.  She was a woman who rejoiced in the Lord for the family that God had entrusted to her.  I felt so honored to hear what brought  joy to Sue's heart.  She loved all of you so much!  Your physical and spiritual lives meant everything to her!

In your grief, I pray that you will also rejoice.  Sue's life was truly a blessing.  She was a gift from God.

May our overwhelming gratitude to Christ strengthen and comfort our hearts.
