Kathryn, better known as Kay, was born on April 11, 1930 in Campbellton, N.B. to the late John A. Mortimer and the late Hazel M. Wright.
Kay worked along side her dear husband, Ralph and his brother Donald and wife Isabel, for over 60 years first at Restigouche Nurseries Flower Shop and then Mann’s Garden Center. Kay was instrumental in the business with her bookkeeping skills and keeping the C.E.O.’s in toe. The foursome did so much together in their personal and business lives and it was very fulfilling. Kay loved having dinner gatherings with family and friends and welcomed many extra mouths at her table with open arms over the years. Nothing could bring a bigger smile to her face with a visit from her grandchildren and great grandchildren and she asked about them until the very end. Kay loved cross country skiing and skating with Ralph in earlier days. She loved the family vacations to P.E.I. for many summers and was happy to have been able to start that tradition for many years with some of her grandchildren. The couple also loved their annual trips with their life long friends Francis and Jean Smith. Kay loved her First United Church, especially the U.C.W. which she belonged to until it disbanded. She had many rolls over the years at the church but bookkeeper and cook were two of her specialties. She was also part of a ladies knitting club which created lasting friendships and camaraderie shared over delicious lunches. Could those ladies bake! Kay was a member of the Eastern Star and over the years was also involved in other community events. Kay loved to knit and for over 80 years knit countless pairs of socks and sweaters for her family. She loved to bowl and was good at it, even better than Ralph.
The family was comforted knowing she was in caring hands and would like to thank the staff at the Campbellton Village Nursing Home.
She is survived by her children Wayne (Charlene), Janet (David) and predeceased by her son, Kevin (Wendy). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jilian (Jon) (great grandchildren, Parker & Anna), Tyler (Hali), Jacob (great grandchild – Trenton), Kyle (great grandchild – Onyx), Christopher, Amanda (great grandchildren – Benjamin, Mea & Zachary). She was predeceased by her sister Ida Mortimer.
A funeral service will be held on April 29, 2024 at 15:00 hours at the First United Church in Campbellton with visitation one hour before.
