John Paul was born on Tuesday, June 16, 1942 in Campbellton, NB to the late Camille Duguay and the late Cécile Arseneault Duguay.
John Paul was an entrepreneur and businessman who dedicated his skills and talents to supporting his family and community. Over his life, he worked as a construction driver, cook, jeweler, silversmith, engraver, leatherworker, clothier, importer, collectibles retailer, and as a traditional artisan of Acadian and Indigenous crafts. He loved his family deeply, and enjoyed good music, good food, fishing, foraging, gardening, canning, travelling Canada from coast to coast, painting along with Bob Ross, cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Campbellton Tigers, Indigenous arts, music and culture, and working to support his friends and community in the Gesgapegiag Mi’gmaq First Nation at Maria, QC.
John Paul is survived by his former partners Cathy, Edwina, and Mariana; his children Ricky, Star (husband Graig; children Shannon, Matthew, Nicholas; grandchildren Natalie, Hannah, and Ava), Brenda Lee (child Eric; daughter-in-law Emma; grandchildren Catherine and Ivan), Scott (child Ashley), and Keith (wife Sheena), as well as his late son Jay’s children Courtney, Josh, and David; Jay’s grandchildren Lilly, Grace, MacKenzie, Damien, Serenity, and Dominic. John Paul is also survived by his sister Géraldine (children Michel and wife Jocelyne, Nicole and husband Terry, Caroline and husband René; grandchildren Candice, Alec, Jonatan, Jacob and Brandon; great-grandchildren Ethan and Deacon), his brothers J. Florent (wife Hélène; children Richard and partner Rachel, Ronald and wife Heather; grandchildren Nicholas and Matthew) and Gérald (wife Carole; children Natalie and Brigitte; grandchildren Devin, Savannah, and Emily), and his sister-in-law Monique (children Kevin and Kathy; grandchildren Noah, Gabriel, and Guillaume). John Paul leaves behind his surviving close friends Gord, Jean-Guy, Caren, James ‘Shaker Maker’, Gayle, Jan, and many other cherished friends and family members. John Paul was predeceased by his parents, his brother Raymond, his sister-in-law Claudette, his son Jay ‘Joey’ Huard, his grandson Kevin Schapoks, and his canine companion Jake.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted in the care of Savoie's funeral Home, Campbellton.
