Carmel McNaughton of Campbellton, NB, wife of the late Gerald McNaughton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, on October 20, 2017, at the Campbellton Village Nursing Home. Born in Campbellton on November 7, 1931, she was the youngest child of the late Arthur and Stella (Savoie) Ahier and was the last surviving member.
Carmel’s unfaltering faith in God was steadfast throughout her life. She enjoyed her volunteering, dedicating years helping residents at the Campbellton Village Nursing Home, canvassing door-to-door for many organizations, especially the Arthritis Society, selling Christmas cakes for the MS Society and in later years, selling tickets for the Village Auxiliary. She was a lifetime member of the CWL. It has been said that Carmel inspired many to join her, whether at the gym or in the swimming pool, in her pursuit to remain healthy, strong and mobile despite her 40+ years with rheumatoid arthritis.
Carmel is survived by her children Coleen (Stephen Carson), of Saint John, NB, Kathy (David MacLeod), of Cole Harbour, NS, Ken (Brigitte Boudreau), of Atholville, NB, Kim (Mark Guitard) of Campbellton, NB, Gretchen (Luke Caissy) of Campbellton, NB, and Lissa (Michael Dickie) of Rothesay, NB. Carmel loved being “Grammy” and was involved in the lives of her eight grandchildren, Michael and Andrew MacLeod, Ross Guitard (Amanda), Alexandra and Christopher Caissy, Laura Carson, Jack and Ian Dickie. She was predeceased by her brothers Lionel, Paul, Gerard, Guy, and her sisters Jeannette, Gisèle and Pierrette.
Carmel was happiest when surrounded by her family. She was a kind, soft-spoken lady; a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and aunt. She will be dearly missed.
