Life and Times of Brian K. Isaac
The many people who were part of Brian's life were witness to the many sides of Brian.
First and foremost, Brian was Family Man, a husband, a father to 3 beautiful children, a son, brother, an uncle, and a godfather. Brian was born in 1962 to late Mabel and MIchael Isaac, the second of six children. Raised amongst his many cousins, surrounded with love of many aunts and uncles.
Brian was a musician, passionate about country music, playing both acoustic and electric guitar and bass. His first band -- The Country Bucks, Brian played alongside Gweezie, Billy Martin, Tommy Fox, Bozzo and Curly Clement. Their Manager was Donnie Germain and he was gonna take them to the Big Time -- the "Shack II Steakhouse" that is. Over the last few years Brian would volunteer his time freely to jam for elders in Listuguj, Gesgapegiag, Upgi'ganjig, Pabineau and Natawaganeg. He would jam with Roger Lee, J.P. Don Patrick Martin, Marvin Condo, Tommy Fox, Allister Martin and others to put on all-request show for the Elders.
Brian was an athlete throughout is life: a goaltender, avid golfer and champion bowler.
Brian travelled to many native golf tournaments, across Quebec, the Atlantic and New England. Brian was a passionate golfer, chasing the elusive hole-in and yes, even throwing his clubs into the woods on occassion. If you were bad at golf, Brian would make you feel better about it.
Brian bowled over 20 years, servicing as the league President, proganizing fun leagues and tournaments for all to enjoy. He was so passionate about bowling he would recruit many to join the league.
Brian was very involved in synchronized swimming with his daughters. Brian served as President. Every year they would host a water show and for 14 years Brian took care of the audio. A stickler for details, Brian even supervised hair and make-up before the big shows, on one occassion even whipping out an electric razor to shave Cara's neck.
Brian was a politician, learning the fine art of politics on his father's knee. Brian was a seasoned Listuguj politician, serving two terms on Council with Chief Allison Metallic. Brian also served on the regional health board for the AFNQL where he earned his reputation as a straight shooter. Brian served on many other boards, lending his voice to those who needed help. ---Don't forget... I'm Micheal Isaac's son---
Brian was politically minded and had a tremendous ability to see the big picture, linking events and actions to implications and impacts on our people.
Brian was an addiction counsellor; he really enjoyed working with clients at Mawiomi Treatment Centre, working his way up Acting Director of Health. Brian was a grad earning his diploma in Counselling from the University of Chicoutimi in Alcohol and Drug Addiction. The irony of this is that Brian was still partying while he studied addiction counselling -- Brian referred to this as "field work". He later found sobriety and walked a sobriety path of over 20 years! He also was a grad ofNechi Institute (training for trainers).
Passionate about issues, immersing himself in the commercial fisheries file with the GMRC, creating a well respected network throughout the industry and scientific communities.
Brian was a comedian, always had a joke up his sleeve, keeping everyone in stitches. Most which could not be repeated in polite company. Any crowd he was in, Brian would have a tale to share.
Brian was good with accents too, he did a mean Scooby Doo and Tim the ToolMan Tayler and could lay on a thick Indian accent if the occasion called for it. Brian was so funny, he would laugh at his own jokes.
Brian loved Hallowee, treating it like a national holiday. He loved to help people with their make-up and helped to organize many of the haunted house events in Listuguj. Brian would take weeks to plan his elaborate make-up and costumes, and he took great pleasure in making people guess all night as he stalked every Halloween Party. One year he and his brother Scott dressed up as a maid and a nurse and walked all over Listuguj, even paying a visit to Alicia's grade 3 class -- traumatizing the children for years to come.
Brian liked to BBQ -- made the best BBQ salmon you'll ever taste, and he loved celebrations.
Underlying theme of each side of Brian was the passion he brought to whatever he did. He was strong in his convictions, if there was a wrong he would work hard to "right" it.
Moreover, Brian was a friend to many. A friend you could count on for advice, a helping hand or simply a laugh.
Brian you work on Earth is done my Friend.
