Rosine’s journey started January 14,1927 in Olsene Belgium, brother Etienne, sister, Sabine soon followed. Her childhood was a happy time, spent between her family’s café in Kruishoutem, grandmother’s farm, always being active—a trait she would continue all her life, slow wasn’t in her vocabulary!
During WW 11, the café was opened up to allied soldiers, it was here she met James (JIm) Craig, a Scottish soldier, and as they say, the rest is history.
In 1947, she left for England, first working as a nanny, then in a hospital, Jim returned to Scotland, then onto Canada. They both decided to immigrate to Canada, leaving England in 1949 to join Jim. This was a choice they both never regretted. She often said how grateful she was to the allied soldiers for liberating Belgium.
Marrying in 1949, settling in then Galt, now Cambridge Ontario, they welcomed their son George, their family was complete. Rosine had happy memories of times spent with neighbors, co-workers and with Jim’s association with the Highland Light Infantry of Canada.
Rosine had many hobbies, knitting, crocheting sewing her own clothes, gardening, walking,
bicycle riding.
Working as an engraver for 25 years, her retirement years were happy times ,spent in her rose garden, summers at Sauble Beach, winters in Florida, with trips to BC, Scotland, Belgium ,Hawaii, Mexico.
After Jim’s passing in 2005,Rosine decided to relocate to Willow Point to be closer to family. She loved being by the sea, Adult Daycare, weekly get togethers with “The Girls”, attending church.
Rosine lived independently until age 90, then moved to Berwick By The Sea, this was also a move she didn’t regret.
Experiencing mobility issues, Rosine started using a walker, she was able to keep up her routine, especially walking around the top deck, checking out the flowers, watching the marine traffic. In true Rosine fashion, the walker didn’t slow her down !!
Being diagnosed with Vascular Dementia was a challenge she and we, as a family faced, giving her support as she needed. Rosine was fluent in several languages, when talking to family in Belgium, she seamlessly reverted to her native Flemish language !
We would like to thank family, friends, staff at Adult Daycare ,Berwick for their care, understanding, compassion towards Rosine, she felt safe and loved.
Special hugs to Pam, Jessica, Tracey, Donna, you made her smile!!
