Our beloved husband, dad, brother, and grandpa, Bob Chepil, passed away on July 25, 2023, at the age of 75.
He was born in Portage la Prairie, MB on July 21, 1948. During his childhood in Portage, he developed a love of sports, playing baseball in the summer and hockey in the winter. His first job at the pro shop at the Portage la Prairie golf course instilled in him a lifelong passion for golf. After graduation Bob moved to Winnipeg to become assistant pro at the St. Charles Golf and Country Club and from there joined the professional golf tour in Florida in the winter of 1968. Unfortunately, his time on the tour was short lived due to wartime uncertainty in the USA.
Bob moved to Campbell River in the fall of 1969, where he met the love of his life, Audrey. Bob and Audrey were married in 1970 and spent the next 53 years enjoying life together with their four daughters.
After 30 years working in lending at CIBC Bob retired in 2006 and he and Audrey spent the next 14 years as snowbirds, travelling for the winter to Arizona. Once Bob was no longer able to travel, he loved to spend his days visiting neighbours and friends, tending his garden, and talking with his grandchildren about their hobbies. Bob was a very social person. He loved to talk with anyone, anytime, anywhere.
After receiving the devastating diagnosis of ALS in June 2020, Bob became active in the fight against ALS in BC, raising funds and awareness by leading a local Move to Cure ALS walk in Campbell River.
He will be remembered by his wife Audrey, his children and grandchildren Sandra and BJ, Damon, Nolan, Desiree, Chelsea; Cindy and Scott, Ryan and Hayley, Brady, Kaden; Dara and Shawn, Mason, Cameron; Carrie and Jesse, Lincoln, Mia, his sister Donna and Rudy and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Florence and son-in-law, Darryl (Carrie).
Bob and the family wanted to offer a special thank you to the countless doctors, nurses, therapists, and care-aids for their kind and compassionate care.
For those wishing to honour his memory, the family asks that donations in Bob’s name be made to the ALS Society of BC in lieu of flowers or other gifts.
