July 5, 1920 - November 12, 2010
Our family is saddened to announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother peacefully at home on November 12, 2010. She was born in Altona, Manitoba. Her family moved to Neville, Sask. After graduation, Elsie went to Medicine Hat, Alta, where she took her nurses training at Medicine Hat General Hospital. She then moved to Vancouver where she nursed at Vancouver General Hospital. Elsie joined the Royal Canadian Medical Corps and served as a nursing sister in World War II. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jack, her children, Lois (Terry), Katherine (John) and Bob (Charmain), her grandchildren, Christopher (Shannon), Jennifer (Steve), Michael, Kathleen, Lisa, Rachel (John), Gavin (Lenny), Sara (Darren) and fourteen great grandchildren, her sister Alma (Leif) and Jack's sisters, Peggy (Peter) and Lois and many nieces and nephews. Elsie dedicated her life to her family. She loved her garden, to bake and read and, when she could to sew, knit, do fancy work and crafts. She particularly loved that most of their married life she and Jack lived on or near the beach because she was able to spend hours of joy playing there with her kids and grandchildren. Elsie and Jack met at the Officers Mess of a Casualty Centre at Gordon Head, Victoria. It was love at first sight and lasted a great 65 years.
A Memorial Service will be held at Sutton's Tyee Chapel on Saturday, November 20th, 2010 at 2.00 p.m., followed by a reception in Sutton's Tea Room. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Campbell River Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
Arrangements under the direction of Sutton's Campbell River Funeral Home, Campbell River, BC.
