David (Dave or Davey) Arnold Porter left us on July 6, 2020, to be mourned by his loving
partner of 25 years, Donna M. Gault, her children Matthew, Allen and Michelle and
husband Adam, and grandchildren Hallie, Jadyn, Parker and other family and many friends plus his best friend Rejean R. Godin
David was born on February 8, 1945, in Milton, Nova Scotia, to Delbert Adam Porter and
Fern C. Porter, nee Manthorne. He was one of three siblings; he was predeceased by both his
parents, his brother Les, and his son Gary.
He spent a few years in Campbellton, New Brunswick, before moving to Vancouver and
finally Victoria, where growing up there gave him lots to do. BC became his home from
one small town to another, working in the mining industry. He settled in Port Hardy in
1973 and worked until BHP (Utah Mines) closed. The next few years he spent working at
the API, finally retiring in 2005; then spent the remaining years keeping the books for Cafe
Guido & Company.
Dave truly loved baseball, hockey, simply walking, and anything to do with model cars,
trains, and planes. He loved his dogs, his fish, and his birds. His days were filled with many
activities.
He was active in the community as well, with coaching baseball or creating the first
computer game page way before games were invented. David was a member of the 101
Squadron and certainly enjoyed the Fish and Chips truck. He was a great volunteer when
pushed to join in and certainly was very generous with donations to all causes.
There was never a dull day with Dave and I will truly miss him. He is also survived by his
daughter Teri Lynn, his brother and sister-in-law Delbert and Diane Porter, his sister-in-law
Della Whynot, and his nephews and niece, David, Delbert, and Shelley.
