He is survived by his wife Cathalene, and their sons Jared and Jeremy. He is further survived by son Shane, and sisters Jeri and Nancy. Cal is predeceased by his parents Ruth and Herman, and his siblings Charlotte, Clyde, and Carl.
Throughout his long and eventful life, Cal pursued a diverse range of careers and passions. In the early 1940’s, as a young teenager, he began working at a lumber mill in Ontario to help support his struggling family. He went on to work as a wallpaper hanger before enlisting in the Canadian Airforce where he served as an electronics instructor and journalist. Later, after returning to civilian life he had multiple different successful careers. He worked as a marketing director, a public relations specialist for Air Canada, a salesman, and a columnist for the Vancouver Sun. In mid-life, Cal started his own marketing agency in Vancouver, as well as going on to build one of the largest custom wooden match companies in Canada.
Cal was an adventurous and driven individual, following his passions into professional diving and fitness. He hunted abalone and explored the oceans along the Pacific coastline, and in the 1970s he started a body building magazine called "Looking Good", which featured fitness icons such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jean Kinisky. Cal also organized and conducted two Mr. North America competitions in Vancouver in the 1970s. He went on to start countless businesses which allowed him to enjoy the freedom that came along with being an entrepreneur. He was able to take his family on many interesting adventures. Cal was a generous man whenever he could be. Despite facing many challenges and changes throughout his life, he remained a hardworking, driven individual who lived a very full rewarding life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
