Samuel Reed, Jr. 76 of Mechanicsburg, PA passed away on July 27, 2022, at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, PA surrounded by his daughters. Samuel (also known as Ross) was born in Waynesburg, PA on September 22, 1945, to the late Samuel Ross and Elizabeth Gail (Johnson) Reed.
Ross was a devoted father and loving husband. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Linda Reed, and his brothers Charles Reed and Edward Reed. He is survived by his daughters Elizabeth Reed (wife Kim) of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Carey Vorhis (husband Michael Vorhis) of Kensington, MD along with his granddaughters Emma Vorhis and Nora Vorhis. Also left to cherish and celebrate his memory are his siblings Bonnie Fritz, Thomas (Jim) O'Donnell, Elizabeth Shellenberger, and Thomas Reed, along with many nieces and nephews.
Ross was a retired State of Pennsylvania employee, an avid reader, and college football enthusiast especially when it came to Notre Dame. He loved above all else spending time with his family and friends, including regular breakfast meetings with friends, family holidays, and annual vacations on the Outer Banks. Ross was a member of the Mechanicsburg Club and St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg, PA.
Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Simpson Ferry Road, Mechanicsburg on Friday, August 5, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
