He was born in Buffalo NY on January 11, 1933.
He served in the NY Coast Guard before joining the U.S. Navy in 1952. He was one of the first computer programmers in the Navy and was instrumental in creating the computer financial system for the state of Hawaii. He served in Danang, South Vietnam in 1968. He was then stationed at the former Fleet Material Support Office in Mechanicsburg before retiring from active duty as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in 1972. After retiring, he was a computer programmer for the former Commonwealth National Bank. He returned to federal service in 1975 at the Fleet Material Support Office until his retirement in 1996.
He was an avid golfer, belonged to two bowling leagues and enjoyed playing card games with his friends. He was a lifetime member of the West Shore Elks Lodge 2257, VFW Post 7530, American Legion Post 109, and the Mechanicsburg Club.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Donna K. Kruger; two sons, Michael W. and his fiancée Aileen of Mechanicsburg, Gregory A. and his wife Susan of Mechanicsburg; two daughters, Donna L. Souders of Millerstown and Pamela J. Kruger of York Haven; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.; his brother Gary R. Kruger of Depew NY.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Neill Funeral Home, 3401 Market Street, Camp Hill. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.
