Robert (“Bob”) Anthony Faiola, 84, of Camp Hill, PA, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2022. He died peacefully surrounded by family. He was born on July 20, 1938, in Leechburg, PA, one of three children of the late Ralph R. and Helen M. (Liptak) Faiola. Bob was a graduate of Leechburg Area High School, where he was a star football player until a scholarship-ending knee injury during his senior year.
Bob graduated from Waynesburg College with a Bachelor’s degree in Math, and he married his high school sweetheart, Catherine L. Oberdorf, on August 26, 1961. After completing 2 years of service in the US Army, stationed at Fort Lee in Petersburg, VA, Bob and Catherine moved to Camp Hill, PA where they had 3 children. Bob worked for the federal government as a mathematician at the US Naval Depot in Mechanicsburg, PA until his retirement in 1987. He then worked as a part-time bank-teller at Mellon Bank before suffering a heart attack in 1993 and a subsequent stroke. Bob was a youth baseball coach for many years. He loved watching sports, especially golf and the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. He was a near scratch golfer himself. His other life-long passions included yard work and detailing cars. Bob was always the life of the party too, with he and his wife hosting annual Christmas Eve and summer block parties for many years. He was a dedicated Emeritus member of the Board of Directors of Member’s 1St Federal Credit Union (formerly DAFCU). He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He enjoyed attending his grandkids’ activities and events, and was generous in his gifts to them. Bob and Catherine are members of The Church of the Good Shepherd in Camp Hill and celebrated 61 years of marriage prior to his death.
Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Catherine (Oberdorf) Faiola; two daughters, Karen Faiola Brezitski (Mark) of Harrisburg, PA and Brenda Faiola Nichols (Gary) of Cary, NC; five grandchildren, Makenna and Kyla Brezitski, Kaitlyn Faiola, and Justin and Larissa Nichols; a daughter-in-law, Kimberly (Pirilla) Faiola; a sister-in-law, Frances (Dudek) Faiola, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his son, David Faiola (1998) of Monroeville, PA; a grandson, Owen Cole Brezitski (2011); and his two brothers, John (1980) (wife, Angeline, 2019) and James (2021) Faiola.
Visitation will be at 12 noon followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 pm at The Church of the Good Shepherd, 3435 E. Trindle Rd., Camp Hill, PA 17011 on Saturday, September10, 2022 and interment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA at the convenience of the family.
