Kathy was born on May 8, 1943 in Hyattsville, MD, daughter of the late Roland and Celeste (Casey) Martin. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Dr. Philip Whelan.
Kathy was a 1961 graduate of Regina High School and a 1964 graduate of St. Agnes School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD. She worked as a pediatric nurse before starting her family.
Kathy and Phil raised their family in Catonsville, MD where Phil worked as a pathologist and Kathy was a homemaker. She spent many hours volunteering for her children's schools and activities, and enjoyed working at the Catonsville Public Library.
Surviving Kathy are two daughter, Beth (Dave) Bartoli and Amy (Brian) Neely; her brothers Roland (Eileen) Martin, and Michael (Barbara) Martin, and many nieces and nephews. She was a loving grandmother to Philip, Sophia, David and Kate Bartoli, and Emma, Caroline and Abby Neely.
Kathy loved spending time with her grandchildren, playing games and supporting their many activities throughout the years. She was also an avid reader, always on the lookout for new books and old favorites. She will be remembered for her generous heart, and great love of her family and friends.
A mass of Christian burial will occur Friday, September 30, 2022 at 11:00 AM, at St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church; 1 Peter Drive, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania 17050. Visitation will be held from 10:00am-11:00am. A burial will occur Friday, September 30, 2022 at 12:30 PM at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 1313 S York Street, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania 17055.
In Kathy's memory, the family asks for contributions to be made to local libraries (dcls.org or https://www.bcpl.info) and to the Susquehanna Service Dog organization (donate.onecause.com), both of which she loved to support.
