He was born November 1, 1942 in Dickson City, PA. He was the son of Roman and Sophie (Gallick) Rakoczy. He was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School in Carbondale.
John is survived by his daughter, Perri Brown (husband Douglas) and his son, Douglas Rakoczy (wife Susan). John is also survived by his sister Joan Magsaman and his grand children Gregory Brown, Christopher Brown, Jacob Rakoczy, Julia Rakoczy, and Joshua Rakoczy; as well as two great grandchildren, Kyle and Riley Brown.
John was predeceased by his wife Mary Rakoczy; his son, Christopher Rakoczy; his parents Roman and Sophie Rakoczy; his sister, Elaine Miller; and his brother Paul Rakoczy.
John served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966. John and his family moved to Harrisburg in 1969 and John accepted a job with Roadway Trucking. He worked for Roadway until he retired. John was a member of the St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church. John liked all sports, but he was an avid Boston Red Sox and New York Jets fan. He enjoyed carpentry work in his spare time.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Harrisburg Foundation, 200 N 3rd St, 8th floor, Harrisburg, PA 17101 in the name of Christopher J. Rakoczy Memorial Fund.
