Franklin R. Ramsdale of Enola passed away at home on Wednesday. He was preceded in death by his son, Frank Ramsdale, and his parents, Franklin M and Stella Ramdale, and two brothers, Merrill and Robert Ramsdale.
Frank was born September 27, 1934, in Locust Dale, PA, the youngest of three boys. He was a graduate of Con-Con High School class of ’52 in Aristes, PA. He moved to Harrisburg in 1952 where he worked as a printer at Hargro Packaging, retiring with 43 years of service. Frank valued the friendships he made at Hargo and continued them with regular breakfast gatherings for many more years.
Frank loved sports, he loved to play and he loved to be a fan. Frank played in the West Shore Twilight League with New Cumberland as well as serving as a Cumberland County Umpire for 20 years. He had a black belt in Judo and participated for over 20 years, also instructing in the sport at the YMCA. He was an avid racquetball player for over 40 years. He had many friends at the club where he worked out regularly. When he wasn’t participating he was cheering on his beloved teams: University of Kentucky basketball, the LA Dodgers, and Navy football, often making a road trip to attend the games.
When he wasn’t playing or watching sports Frank loved to be on the road. He and Karen enjoyed the East Coast and Florida beaches several times a year. Cruises, just the two of them or with friends, was the perfect vacation for Frank.
Frank was an optimist. He made friends so quickly, striking up a conversation in an instant. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. His enthusiasm, devotion to his friends and love of his family will be greatly missed.
Frank is survived by his wife and companion of 41 years, Karen Hockenberry Ramsdale; his daughter, Nancy Fink; two stepsons, Collin Ulrich(Becky) and David Ulrich; grandson, Barton Fink and granddaughter Allison Fink; four nieces and nephews; and many long time friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Frank’s life will be held at 11:00 Monday, August 20, 2018 at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 4685 Mt. Zion Drive, Enola
